Why Nigerians Must Only Patronise Estate Surveyors And Valuers On Property Transactions, By The Chairman, NIESV Lagos
While there are other persons and professionals involving themselves in real estate transactions in Nigeria today, only Estate Surveyors and Valuers (ESVs) registered by the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) have the professional competence and certification to do valuation among other real estate practices.
This was clarified by the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Lagos State Branch, ESV (Mrs) Olabisi Demola-Alade during a parley with a section of the media yesterday 17th June, 2021 at the Branch Secretariat in Alausa, Lagos.
During her maiden interaction with the journalists, NIESV Lagos Branch Chairman said NIESV, like ICAN and similar bodies in Nigeria is a body of professionals who are trained in real estate matters.
“This goes to say that only Estate Surveyors and Valuers have the requisite professional competence and statutory recognition under the ESVARBON Act, Decree No. 24 of 1975 now CAP E 13 LFN 2004 to execute real estate assets, management and provide professional advice,” she said.
ESV Demola-Alade was speaking on the problem of quackery which has become a big monster in the real estate industry.
She lamented that “There are now so many people parading themselves as real estate agents who are quacks in the system and this is making it difficult to accord our members who are the real professionals the needed identification.”
NIESV Lagos Branch first female Chairman, who is a Deputy Director at the Lagos State Lands Bureau implored the public to patronise only NIESV members who are also accredited by the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON).
She said, “In the same vein, Lawyers, Accountants and other professionals do not have the professional competence and certification to do valuation among other real estate practices that are done by Estate Surveyors and Valuers. It is only Estate Surveyors and Valuers that have such professional competence and legal recommendation to do valuation and other real estate matters.”
Speaking on her 10-point agenda for the Branch under her administration, she said, “My administration will be working to deepen awareness of our brand as ESVs and what we do as professionals.”
She called on the media to support the Branch and the Institution in the area of publicity and advocacy to enable people know about Estate Surveyors and Valuers and their practice better.
