Courtesy Visit to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Property Development Corporation – LSP
President and Chairman of The Council today paid a Courtesy Visit to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Property Development Corporation (LSP Honourable Ayodeji Joseph in his Ilupeju office in Lagos.
President in his address expressed appreciation to the Managing Director for considering it important to receive The Council despite his busy schedule. He also congratulated him on his appointment into the exalted office of the Managing Director/CEO of the foremost housing provider in Nigeria and Africa. He commended him for the various innovations he has brought on board since he assumed office.
President used the opportunity to brief the Managing Director on the immense contributions of the Institution through the provision Real Estate Services, Land Administration, Asset Management and Administration, Housing and Project Development to the development of Lagos State. He added that the Institution is available to partner with LSDPC as it strives to deliver on it’s mission and mandate. He mentioned specifically that NIESV would be willing to collaborate with the Corporation to:
1) Realize its mandate on accommodation, rentals, lease, marketing and consultancy services.
II) Make recommendations to the government through the Corporation on housing development and delivery in the overall interest of the state and the residents.
III) Bring our expertise to the table for real estate development and management of accommodations on commercial and profitable basis across the state as well as execution of approved housing programmes.
IV) Share Housing Data and collaborate on our ongoing Housing Research.
To that effect, President suggested that the Management officers of the Corporation should attend the key programmes of the Institution at the national and state levels.
He also mooted the idea of a joint National Housing Workshop with the suggestion of raising a Committee to work out the details. The project, he reasoned shall impact both the LSDPC and NIESV.
He solicited the support of the Managing Director to the call for the review of the Land Use Act which the Institution has been championing because the Act is a major hindrance to housing development in Nigeria. The best way to achieve this would be to first remove the Act from the Constitution.
The President drew the attention of the Managing Director to the headship of the Estate Department at the Corporation by a non professional Estate Surveyor and Valuer. If professionalism must be adhered to in planning, in execution, delivery and marketing of housing projects, it is just appropriate that professionals must be in charge. He appealed to the Managing Director to look into the matter in the interest of the organization, of the staff and the Corporation.
Responding, the Managing Director said that LSDPC would be willing to partner with the Institution in every way necessary and possible. On the question of a non professional Estate Surveyor and Valuer heading the Estate Department, the Managing Director said the issue is being looked into and would be sorted out as soon as possible.
He promised to have a joint National Housing Workshop with NIESV and to ensure more sponsorship of staff to NIESV programmes and events. Another collaborative approach according to the Managing Director would be an invitation to NIESV to the in-house Workshop the Corporation intend to organise. The President promptly promised to brief the Chairman of the Housing Professional Association, ESV (Prof) Nubi Timothy, FNIVS to come up with a programme.
On the President’s entourage were ESV (Chief) Kola Akomolede, FNIVS and an Elder of the Institution, ESV (Mrs) Olabisi Demola-Alade, FNIVS, Chairman of Lagos State Branch, ESV (Mrs) Toyin Agbalaya, FNIVS and ESV Mutiu Balogun, FNIVS.
